Soil Laboratory
Kayseri Commodity Exchange Soil Analysis Laboratory has been serving the farmers of Kayseri since 2013. Since its establishment, our laboratory has been conducting soil analyses for our farmers, and today it continues to operate under the mission and vision of the Kayseri Commodity Exchange.
Farmers who request Soil Analysis can apply to the Kayseri Commodity Exchange Laboratory. After their application, the work is carried out with meticulous attention. Soil samples are taken from agricultural land, and analyses are conducted in our laboratory to help you achieve higher yields. Our fully equipped laboratory will provide you with fast and reliable results. For farmers who wish to obtain high yields from agricultural lands for many years, when they wish to conduct soil analysis, we as the Kayseri Commodity Exchange Soil Analysis Laboratory offer this service. Based on our analyses, this initiative aims to encourage the use of agricultural inputs in a more efficient way, which is, in fact, a fundamental investment in Agricultural Education for Turkey. It is a part of agricultural infrastructure services and the foundation of public spending.
The general analyses performed in our laboratory under the Exchange are pH analysis, Salinity, Organic Matter, Lime, Potassium, and Phosphorus. The primary aim of these analyses is to reduce fertilizer and irrigation water expenses in order to increase crop productivity. Without proper analysis, deficiencies and reduced productivity can be observed in growing conditions. This leads to financial losses, degradation of soil properties over time, and environmental pollution. Just as in the healthcare sector, where we observe results based on blood, sugar, and urine tests for our health, in countries with widespread intensive agriculture, essential decisions regarding fertilizers, irrigation water, and other parameters for soil are also based on analysis results.
If we apply practices based on the accumulation of chemicals or minerals in the soil due to long-term use of agricultural land, it would be a major loss for our country. Therefore, early measures should be taken, and the structure and needs of the soil should be determined by laboratories with the necessary qualifications. Soil salinization and reduced water retention capacity are due to excessive fertilization and improper use of irrigation water. Nutrient deficiencies that cannot be met by natural fertilizers are compensated with synthetic (chemical) fertilizers. In this type of fertilization, the needs of the plant and soil should be considered. Changes in soil texture and structure over time can lead to the increase of undesirable features and deficiencies in the desired parameters.
Additionally, another harmful effect is that an excess of fertilizers, even when intended to be beneficial, can cause soil pollution and alter the soil’s structure. In short, if soil analysis is not conducted:
- More fertilizer than necessary may be used, leading to a significant increase in costs.
- Excessive fertilization damages the soil.
- If insufficient fertilizer is used, plant growth may be stunted.
- Using the wrong fertilizer at the wrong time may result in the plant not absorbing the nutrients properly.
- Using the wrong type of fertilizer can cause reduced yield in plants.
